Itinerary: Morocco Itinerary 9 days - Desert & Imperial Cities

Day 1:Casablanca airport Transfer, Visit the Mosque Hassan II, overnight in Rabat

Upon arrival at the Casablanca International Airport, you will be greeted by our courteous driver just outside the main entrance, holding a sign displaying your name. He will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Rabat for check-in. However, if your flight lands early, we will begin our journey with an exhilarating visit to the iconic Hassan II Mosque, followed by a scenic drive along the coast. After this unforgettable experience, we will depart for Rabat, the capital of Morocco, and check-in at your delightful Hotel or Riad for a restful overnight stay.

Day 2:Visit Rabat the capital of Morocco, Roman Ruins at Volubilis and Meknes, Overnight in Fez

Indulge in a delicious breakfast before embarking on a historical guided tour of Rabat’s magnificent landmarks, including the dazzling Kingdom Palace, the grand Mausoleum of Mohammed V, the mesmerizing Hassan Mosque boasting medieval Moorish architecture, the ancient Chellah necropolis, and the awe-inspiring Oudaya Kasbah.
Next, we shall board our vehicle and journey towards the imperial city of Meknes, capital of the 16th century ruled by Moulay Ismail, who emulated the Sun King, Louis XIV of France. Here, you’ll experience a guided tour of the majestic Roman ruins of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
As our expedition continues, we’ll finally arrive at the charming city of Fez to unwind and cherish the night at a traditional Riad.

Day 3:Explore the Imperial City of Fez with a certified Guide

Embrace a full day dedicated to exploring Fez, the oldest of Morocco’s imperial cities. Home to the world’s first university established in the 9th century and one of the most remarkable medieval cities still standing, founded way back in 790 AD. Fez, also known as “The Soul of Morocco”, exists in a magical realm between the Middle Ages and today, stimulating the senses with its striking visual details, soulful sounds, and heavenly aromas.
The day will consist of a guided tour of the medieval Medina, the prestigious Karaouine University, the fascinating Medersa Attarine, the ornate Kingdom Palace and the vibrant souks. Get lost in the mesmerizing alleys and streets of Fez and indulge in its rich history and culture.

Day 4:Visit Ifrane, Overnight in Midelt

Our journey begins over the breathtaking Middle Atlas, awed by the alpine beauty of the region, particularly the charming town of Ifrane, famously known as the coldest town in Africa. This picturesque location is often compared to a Swiss Alpine resort and evokes the sense of wandering through a winter wonderland. As we traverse the mountains, we’ll catch a glimpse of Morocco’s nomadic Berbers, traveling through the rugged terrain and occasionally stopping to rest in makeshift tents along their journey. We’ll also encounter the curious and playful Barbary Macaque monkeys as we hike through the scenic cedar forests en route to Midelt- the apple capital of Morocco! Upon our arrival in the afternoon, the rest of the day is yours to spend relaxing by the pool or you may opt to join a guided walk through the neighboring orchards for a closer look at Morocco’s lush countryside.

Day 5:Onwards to Merzouga, camel trek and night in the Camp

Embark on a mesmerizing road trip towards the Sahara, indulging in a delectable Moroccan lunch en route before reaching our destination – the charming town of Merzouga. Embark on an enchanting camel ride that offers an unparalleled experience to watch the sunset in the stunning Sahara desert. As we cruise through the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi, we’ll arrive at our remote luxury campsite, nestled in the heart of the desert. Intrigued by the traditional Berber music, we’ll relish a tantalizing local dinner under the mesmerizing starlit sky, followed by an unforgettable night of camping amidst the tranquil dunes of the Sahara.

Day 6:Sunrise over the dunes, head to Dades valley

Kickstarting the day with an early start, we ride on camels once again, this time to witness an awe-inspiring sunrise over the desert. After a scrumptious breakfast at the Merzouga Camp, we hit the road towards Todra and Dades Gorges. As we approach the spectacular Todra Gorge, we’ll be surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, soaring to dizzying heights of 1000ft, reminiscent of Morocco’s Grand Canyon. The charm of this alluring destination lies in the changing hues of its natural surroundings as the sun makes its daily journey from east to west. Take your time to explore the Gorge before we head out to the scenic Dades Gorge, where we’ll spend the night, surrounded by breath-taking views of nature’s wonders.

Day 7:Visit the Ksar of Aït Ben Haddou and Tizi N'Tichka Pass over the high Atlas Mountains

Wake up to a delicious breakfast at the hotel before we embark on a journey through the mesmerizing Dades Valley, Kalaat Mgouna, and Ouarzazate. Renowned as the way of a thousand Kasbahs, this route offers you ample opportunities to capture your best photographic moments of the tour. We’ll drive through the picturesque Roses Valley and Skoura village before heading towards Ouarzazate, famously known as “the Hollywood of Africa”. Our lunch will be at the legendary Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, the largest of its kind in Morocco, a UNESCO matrimonial historical site that speaks wonders of the era gone by. Our journey continues to the majestic Tizi ‘n’ Tichka pass (2260m) over the High Atlas Mountains, where we’ll have ample time to stop and admire the impressive views. As the sun sets over Marrakech, we reach the city, completing the day’s delightful journey in the late afternoon.

Day 8:Cultural guided city tour of Marrakech

Experience the splendor of Marrakech, famously known as the “red city of Morocco”. Be escorted by your official guide from your Riad to embark on a visit to some of the most significant sites of historical and cultural interest, including the Koutoubia Tower, Saadiens tombs, and the Bahia Palace. After a sumptuous lunch at a restaurant in the new city, we’ll visit the Majorelle and explore its beauty. As the day winds down, you will have the opportunity to wander around and explore the city at your own pace, before returning to your Riad.

Day 9:Airport departure

Your flight’s final destination, either Casablanca or Marrakech airport, will determine the course of your travel plan.
